A LITTLE HISTORY
In 1970 the State of Nevada legalized brothels in several counties. It did not take long for legal brothels
to start opening up in Nye County. One such brothel was Fran's Star Ranch just outside of Beatty, Nevada. This was to become Angel's
Ladies in 1997.
In 1978, the owner of Fran’s Star Ranch sent letters across the
west announcing that she was going to put a mattress in the center of a large star painted in the parking lot
and any parachute jumper who could hit the mattress would win a free night with a lady of his choice. On the day of the
event, Fran’s ladies were lined up along the runway waving like beacons dressed in spiked heels, fish-net
stockings and long capes blowing in the strong wind. There were heavy cross winds that afternoon as the pilot and several passengers, all ready to party,
banked his airplane in a circle around the field.
Paying more attention to the ladies than his flying, he was caught in a cross wind. Trying to regain control of the airplane,
he realized that he'd forgotten to lock his tail wheel down. The landing gear crumpled and the plane spun toward the edge of the runway,
clipped a high wire, and settled in the sage as the ladies watched on. The passengers and pilot all survived with just a few bumps and bruises.
Fran, who had noticed increased traffic, decided that a crashed plane was good for business and agreed to leave the plane where it landed.
In 1997, she sold the brothel to Mack and Angel Moore.
Just after Mack and Angel bought the place, they changed the name to Angel's Ladies Brothel and kept the plane which has become
a landmark along highway 95. Since that time decals have started appearing on the airplane put there by passerby's. Tourists stop and have their
pictures taken by the plane for a memento of their visit to Beatty.
As with all businesses there have been ups and downs to the history of Angel's Ladies. Mack and Angel sold
after several years building up the brothel and clientele. After the new owners destroyed all that had been accomplished by Fran and the
Moore's, Mack took Angel's Ladies back and is now restoring Angel's to its former glory. Yes, Mack and Angel are back and the future of
Angel's Ladies looks better than before. Drop on by for a free cup of coffee, friendly conversation and of course, a choice of beautiful
